We are decorating destinies ~ Olufunbi Akinyosoye

So Faceofstars eventually caught up with the face of a star named Olufunbi Akinyosoye on Saturday October 30, 2010, she was clad in pink joggers and black T-shirt seated in front of a TV, I didn’t get what she was watching as we were nine minutes late for the appointment, she however welcomed us with a warm smile and a ‘hello good afternoon’ we launched into discussions soon after some pleasantries as Faceofstars set out to discover the glister inside this star, Funbi.

Please follow me...
Can you please tell us a bit about you?

Well, I am Olufunbi Akinyosoye, born on April 10, 1979 l am the first in a family of four, all girls, born to Captain Yomi and Late Mrs Abimbola Osobu, I attended Oxford children school Dopemu and Saint Theresa's College, Ibadan then LASU (Lagos State University) for a pre-degree and later Unilag (University of Lagos) to study Marine Biology and Fisheries, I graduated in 2002. I have been a widow for two and half years now, I have a lovely daughter, Ogomide, she is four.

Losing your husband must have been a sad experience; can you please tell us how this has affected you?
Well, you can say that again, it most definitely has, I called him the "wind beneath my wings", he was one of the best things that happened to me, it was hard starting out again without him, having to do things by myself, I thought I wouldn’t be able to go on anymore, in all my years in Unilag, I never dated any man but him, so u can just... but God has just been kind (she paused ‘go on’ I urged)
Well, even when it happened, I was surprisingly calm about it, all I remembered saying was ‘Holy Spirit this can't be happening to me’, but God has been my anchor in this storm.

What do you do for a living?
Ten years ago, I started my business in decorations; Dunamis Events my business involves wedding planning (oh I love brides!) and event ambience creation/decoration we do bridal gifts packaging (eru iyawo); we also do training, thereby empowering people.
How is the business now and would you have chosen another path; what is your vision for your business?
Hmmm...  another path? Nah! I don’t think so, I believe I was cut out for this; I believe it’s my calling; we are not just planning and decorating events, we are decorating destinies. Well, I believe if one puts in the right attitude and growth is organic, then the sky is only a launching pad.
Vision: believing God to expand to different spheres still within the event industry and for Dunamis to become a household name.

Can you tell us something about you that you think is striking and has contributed to your success?
Hmmm... Am I supposed to blow my own horn?
Yes it is your horn, we can’t blow it for you!
I think I have an endearing personality that just makes people warm up to me and kinda wanna trust me.
Do you have any interests or favourite pastime?
I love staying at home,  my hobby, in contrast to my occupation is watching series/movies, browsing the web, eating basmati rice and noodles.
What is your favourite colour?
I LOVE colours it has always been my turf, I believe your personality depicts the kind of colours you reach out for.
Hmmm maybe because I work with colours, I really don’t have a best colour, I think it depends on my moods, though I love dark colours like coffee browns, blacks. (She added) because it is safe.
Do you have any accessory or perfume you are crazy about?
I don’t really think I’m fanatical about accessories... hmmm, maybe my wrist watches and definitely PERFUMES; my favourite perfumes? please don’t be surprised- Hugo Boss' Energizer, Channel's Chance and Elizabeth Arden’s Beauty
I tried not to be surprised but I was (sol) smiling out loud.
Yes, I like some male perfumes, I also like Calvin Klein's Crave7, Givenchy’s The Irresistible

What kind of person are you inside?
Hmmm...inside, I think I’m just a simple person that love the good things of life generally,  I also yearn for perfection, so I’m never pleased with mediocrity I think you can call me a perfectionist.
Embarrassing experience you would like to share?
Who doesn't have?  Well, there was this wedding I did in Queen's College then I wasn't settled, because my late husband was in the hospital then and I used a wrong colour for decorating the hall! It looked like an unforgiveable sin, gosh! I had to write a letter of apology to the bride and her parents to tell them what emotional state I was in... Though I believe I’m inexcusable because as a professional, my private life shouldn't affect my business. I thought of this saying ‘Men at their very best are still human.’
In the end, I was forgiven and empathized with.
Do you have any massage to share with us?
Well, I remember this, when I was about to start Dunamis Events, someone told me 'you know u need to have long leg to succeed in this job’ my reply was ‘What if I have the One who made the “long legs”?’
It is good to know what you want and do it tenaciously; you should know the God you serve too.
That is my recipe for success.

Thus we concluded the a long and exciting afternoon but not before I got psycho-analysed for wearing too much white, Funbi thinks wearing a lot of white ‘suggests goodness, purity and innocence. Its elusive nature provides serenity and the essence of perfection. The individual who chooses white as a favourite colour seeks excellence and enlightenment in all philosophies... Simplicity, purity and recognition are a constant endeavour’. Phew!
